The Kinbaku Society of Berlin Magazine
This limited, hand-numbered collectors edition is published twice a year, offering a bold and uncensored mix of visual inspiration and in-depth research. Our focus lies in both traditional and contemporary Japanese underground culture—particularly Rope Bondage, Adult Entertainment, and Aesthetics—and how these are perceived in the West. We aim to cherish the culture without appropriating it.
More broadly, we explore subcultures and the fringes of normative society, aiming to create a platform for genuine human expression. We give voice to those who are deviant, who don’t quite fit the mold, but who nonetheless have every right to exist.
The themes and topics touched upon in the magazine rotate around the darker aspects of our sexuality. We discuss marginalisation, kink, BDSM, Kinbaku, psychology, and censorship, in the context of performative arts and media production, as well as our human desire to live despite knowing that suffering and death exists.

Our story
This project began as a forum, initiated by a group of enthusiastic, creative individuals who came together to study Kinbaku—and the sublime eroticism woven into it. We sought to understand both historical and contemporary Japanese concepts of beauty, and how these might be thoughtfully translated within a European cultural context. Our aim was (and still is) to shape an original expression of Kinbaku—one that honors its Japanese origins without appropriating them.
The outcomes of our studies were published in a printed quarterly magazine, featuring poetry, fiction, essays, documentation, drawings, and photography. We started in 2019 with a small group of our students and just 100 copies. During the COVID years, with the support of friends across Europe, we expanded to produce 16 issues in total, with a final print run of 350 copies.
There was never a formal membership—only a shared sense of participation and contribution.
Above all, this has always been a not-for-profit project, born from passion.
We appreciate your submissions.
The Kinbaku Society of Berlin has a mission to encourage research, creativity, and development within all humans. Whether you are a reader or a content creator, you are an important part of us! And we want to be more explicitly open about this and let you know that we are interested in what you have to offer! If you have content that you think might be appropriate for the magazine, then we would love for you to submit it!
EVERY ISSUE HAS A THEME MEANT TO INSPIRE A DIRECTION FOR ALL THOSE CONTRIBUTING
The upcoming themes are:
- Play (deadline March 31th, 2026)
- A graphic novel (deadline September 30th, 2026)
We accept fiction, documentary text, research articles, poetry, and visual arts (with drawings preferred over photography) that reflect the topics above.
Content should preferably be written in English, although writings in your native language can be submitted as well. With the exception of the “featured artist”, we aim for exclusive / primary publication.
Please read and follow our submission guideline for details, when you consider to submit your contribution.
We want to keep the magazine a certain size, and with that it’s important to know that not all submissions will be published. This does not mean your submission was not worthy! Just that it was not chosen by the final artist who curates the issues’s content and design. It is possible that we ask to keep your work on hold until we can find a place to make it shine, and you are free to withdrawal your submission at any time (as long as it hasn’t already been agreed upon for publication).
So, with that, please join us in exploring the boundaries of Kinbaku! Whether you live in Berlin or not, we can still all come together in it’s name!
Send your submissions to hello@die-goldbomben.de
We proudly display former issues, that were produced by the KSB collective between 2019 and 2024. They all are out of print. We will not re-print nor publish the content online.
